The Real Greek is launching its first standalone vegan menu on Wednesday 21 March.
The new menu will feature 30 dishes that have been created following a tour of the UK and Greece, sampling vegan dishes and speaking to customers about meat-free and dairy-free food.
Dishes include a jackfruit stifado – a Greek stew made with slow-cooked jackfruit, buttom mushrooms, shallots and aniseed – and a vegan moussaka – layered potato, courgette, aubergine and slow-cooked jackfruit mix, cooked with cinnamon.
“While The Real Greek has always been proud to have a variety of vegan-friendly options on its menu, creating a special dedicated menu was a natural step for us,” says The Real Greek operations director Christos Karatzenis. “Veganism is ingrained in Grecian history and culture, with the first vegan diet created by philosopher Pythagoras in 550 BCE – it was more than a theory! We’re excited to launch this menu that is a result of listening to our customers, and leaning on tradition, to craft what we believe is one of the most varied and flavoursome vegan menus you’ll find in the UK today.”
To mark the launch, The Real Greek sites in Bankside, Soho, Spitalfields and Westfield London will be giving away 100 free vegan jackfruit gyros souvlaki wraps each from 12pm on Wednesday 21 March.
