Benihana has revealed record 53% international growth for 2019.
The teppanyaki restaurant will open new sites with franchise agreements in Egypt (five sites), Pakistan (three sites) and Mexico (one site), taking its global portfolio to 29 sites.
In February 2019, Benihana opened in Glasgow.
Expansion follows investment by hospitality group Minor International, which acquired a 75% stake in Benihana in 2018.
Richard Mackay, formerly of Wagamama and Nozomi, was subsequently appointed managing director.
Benihana now operates in Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, UK, Beirut, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Canada and Mexico.
“The expansion plan is supported by a new, experienced development team across property, procurement, marketing and branding to help secure a further 55-year success story,” says Mackay. “With a five-year growth plan in action to open more than 40 new restaurants, we are excited to share this exciting journey with our guests and partners. We are inspired by the success of our founder, Rocky Aoki who once said ‘only those who do not fear failure will achieve success’.”
