Hotel and restaurant group Mama Shelter has opened a new venue in London.
Mama London is in the heart of the East End on Hackney Road, with a 100-cover restaurant.
The menu centres around sharing dishes. Starters include pork belly baos with char siu sauce, pak choi and hajikami ginger, crab doughnuts with pickled cucumber, and cumin roasted cauliflower and Asian rice paper wraps.
Mains include French staples like Croque Monsieur, Coquillettes with Mostellos jambon and soft-boiled Burford brown egg, along with grilled seabass, ribeye and aubergine parmigiana.
In a nod to the restaurant’s location, there will also be a take on pie, mash and liquor, as well as an East London Iced Platter.
The interior will be focused on sharing, with communal dining tables, an island bar and an outdoor courtyard with a retractable glass roof.
The design features vintage lamps, a twist on English lace doilies, dark wooden interiors, coloured macramé and Liberty prints. The chalkboard ceilings feature graffiti by graphic designer and artist Beniloys.
Downstairs, there’s Japanese-style karaoke rooms with pinball machines and retro video games. There is also table football and a giant Twister board.
