Greek street food concept The Athenian is providing its staff with a weekly care package as extra support during the coronavirus outbreak, which has seen restaurants up and down the country close their doors.
All Athenian staff receive free meals during their shifts, but they will now also be given a weekly parcel with basic necessities including feta pastry, lentils, tomatoes, tomato paste, pasta, olive oil, lettuce and toilet roll.
The Athenian has confirmed that retaining every member of staff is its priority, and in order to do so, plans are underway to open several new delivery only kitchens with Deliveroo Editions, both in and out of London.
Working with Deliveroo will allow The Athenian to trade online only, keep staff in work and maintain company morale.
Another initiative launched by founders Tim and Neo is a ‘walk to work’ scheme for the skeleton staff still operating.
As the London tube network has been heavily reduced, meaning trains are overcrowded, The Athenian is promising that each member of their delivery team who walks to work will be paid to do so, rather than risk taking public transport.
The Greek eatery is also offering a 50% discount for NHS staff.
